Patidar powers RCB into IPL final with record-breaking play-off win over Gujarat

Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru stormed into the final of the 2026 Indian Premier League with a crushing 92-run victory over Gujarat Titans in a high-scoring play-off encounter.

RCB piled up a record-breaking 254-5, the highest total ever recorded in an IPL play-off match, after captain Rajat Patidar produced a stunning unbeaten 93 from only 33 deliveries.

His explosive innings featured nine sixes and five fours as Bengaluru smashed 126 runs in the final seven overs.

The innings had been evenly poised when RCB reached 94-3 in the ninth over following the dismissal of Virat Kohli for 43, but Patidar's late assault completely shifted momentum in favour of the defending champions.

Gujarat Titans, who finished second behind RCB in the league phase on net run-rate, suffered an early collapse in reply.

Jos Buttler briefly counterattacked with 29, including four fours and two sixes, before being bowled by Josh Hazlewood as his difficult run of form continued.

Reduced to 88-8, Gujarat were effectively out of contention long before Rahul Tewatia struck a spirited 68. The Titans were eventually dismissed for 162 in the final over.

Despite the heavy defeat, Gujarat still remain alive in the competition and will face the winner of Wednesday's eliminator between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals for a place in Sunday's final.
