Mumbai Indians sign trio of internationals as replacements ahead of IPL playoffs

Mumbai Indians have signed England duo Jonny Bairstow and Richard Gleeson as well as Sri Lanka's Charith Asalanka as temporary replacements for the IPL playoffs, should they qualify.

The international trio will replace Will Jacks, Ryan Rickelton and Corbin Bosch, who would be leaving for national duty after Mumbai's last league game of the season.

Rickelton and Bosch have been named in South Africa's squad for the World Test Championship final against Australia while Jacks is heading back to England to feature in a white-ball series against West Indies.

Mumbai and Delhi Capitals are fighting for the last remaining spot in the top four and play against each other in a crucial clash on Wednesday.

Bairstow wrote on social media: "These decisions are never straightforward - especially given how much I've enjoyed leading Yorkshire this year.

"I'm incredibly grateful to the club for understanding, continued support and look forward to getting stuck back in on my return. This is a fantastic opportunity, and I'm excited to contribute to MI's campaign. Can't wait to get started and experience the energy of Mumbai."

Rickelton is currently the Mumbai's second-highest run-scorer this season behind Suryakumar Yadav, with 336 runs at 30.54 and a strike rate of 153.42 in 12 innings.
