JP Duminy named permanent Proteas batting coach in white-ball cricket

Former South Africa all-rounder JP Duminy has been appointed as the Proteas' permanent batting coach in white-ball cricket ahead of the limited-overs series against the West Indies.

The 38-year-old Duminy, who played a combined total 280 limited-overs internationals and in various domestic T20 leagues around the world, will work under new Proteas white-ball coach Rob Walter.

A classy left-handed batter in his prime, Duminy is currently South Africa's third leading run-scorer in T20Is with 1934 runs in 81 matches, behind Quinton de Kock and David Miller.

Duminy was head coach of the Paarl Royals in the inaugural season of the SA20 earlier this summer and will now also vacate his role as mentor of Boland.

Former Proteas seamer and Western Province stalwart, Rory Kleinveldt has been named Proteas interim bowling coach for the three ODIs and three ODIs against West Indies later this month and will be joined by Lions head coach Wandile Gwavu, who will take charge of the fielding.

CSA director of cricket Enoch Nkwe added: "JP has been a great servant of South African cricket over the years and to have him on board as a coach adds immense value for two reasons.

"He is a developing coach and his experience as a player, so we look forward to having him on board.

"Rory is another man that has played the game for a number of years and having him join us bodes well for the bowling group.

"I would also like to welcome Wandile on board. He is a proven coach as we saw with the success he brought to the DP World Lions. By the same token, I want to thank the Lions for availing Wandile to assist his country for the tour."

The Proteas start the ODI series against the Windies on 16 March followed by matches on the 18th and 21st while the T20Is will take place on 25, 26 and 28 March.
