How Quinton de Kock bounced back from duck against India

Proteas batter Quinton de Kock says he had to make amends after being dismissed for a duck in the first T20I against India.

De Kock continued his sensational form since reversing his retirement decision as he led the Proteas to a 51-run win to level the five-match 20-over series 1-1 with three to play.

The 32-year-old, who celebrates his birthday next Wednesday, scored a quick-fire 90 runs from 46 deliveries, decorated with seven sixes and five fours as he shared how he went about bouncing back from the first match, which SA lost by a mammoth 101 runs.

"Just trying to get myself in a better position. I think initially I was quite irritated and disappointed with myself with the way I got out in the previous game, I think it was very sloppy," said De Kock.

"I knew if I stood a chance to score runs, I just needed to look after that in the first couple of balls, especially with a guy like Arshdeep [Singh] and Bums [Jasprit Bumrah] – you have to be strong in your positions otherwise they will find you out, you can't be loose.

"And that was pretty much that, and from there the ball just rolled and I just let the instincts take over and kept making sure I was in good positions, and that was all it was."

De Kock has been among the runs since returning to the team for the tour of the sub-continent, which included ODI and T20I series in Pakistan, and says he has found it easy to make the transition back into international cricket.

"I think it was pretty easy coming back as a batsman as a whole, because I was doing it quite a bit before I knew what it took in order to be an international cricketer again," he added.

"So the transition was fairly simple, it was just a matter of just doing it."
