England's Sam Curran cops fine for breaching ICC code of conduct against Proteas

England seamer Sam Curran has been fined and had one demerit point added to his disciplinary record for his celebration upon dismissing Proteas captain Temba Bavuma in Sunday's second ODI.

Curran pleaded guilty to breaching the International Cricket Council's (ICC's) code of conduct after getting in the face of Bavuma, who ramped the left-armer onto his stumps for 109 off 102 balls in Bloemfontein.

The bowling all-rounder's level one infringement led to him being docked 15 per cent of his match fee and also incurring a demerit point - his first, with the accumulation of four in a 24-month period resulting in a suspension.

Curran was found to have violated article 2.5 of the ICC's code of conduct by "excessively" celebrating the wicket "in close proximity to the dismissed batter, being an action which had the potential to provoke an aggressive reaction from Bavuma".

It was one of a couple of flashpoints in South Africa's five-wicket victory last weekend, with England captain Jos Buttler and Proteas batter Rassie van der Dussen involved in a heated exchange.

Buttler felt he had been obstructed in his attempt to get the ball after Van der Dussen had inside-edged onto his pad but following a couple of cross words, the umpires intervened and play continued.
