Delhi Capitals welcome back Mitchell Starc in time for Rajasthan Royals clash

Mitchell Starc is set to hand Delhi Capitals a timely boost ahead of their Indian Premier League clash against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on Friday, with the left-arm quick cleared to return from May 1.

The Capitals, captained by Axar Patel, are in urgent need of momentum after a turbulent campaign that has left them seventh on the table with three wins from seven matches.

Their season has been defined by volatility, ranging from posting a 250-plus total to conceding a world-record chase, while also collapsing to 75 all out against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

A narrow one-run defeat to Gujarat Titans earlier this month has only added to the emotional toll.

Delhi's batting unit remains a concern. Despite individual contributions from KL Rahul, David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, and Sameer Rizvi, the lineup has yet to function cohesively.

There was, however, a bright spot in the previous outing, where Abhishek Porel impressed as an Impact Player, potentially earning a place in the starting XI.

Starc's return could see him replace either Kyle Jamieson or Dushmantha Chameera, especially with Lungi Ngidi still unavailable. Delhi's bowling unit will need immediate improvement after failing to defend a modest total in their last match.

Rajasthan Royals, currently fourth, arrive full of confidence after securing six wins in nine games, including a statement victory over Punjab Kings. Their aggressive top order, led by the in-form Yashasvi Jaiswal and the fearless Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, poses a significant challenge.
