CSA T20 Challenge: Victories for Dolphins and Lions as top four take shape

The top four of the CSA T20 Challenge table was settled on Friday when the Dolphins beat the Titans in Centurion while the Lions overcame Western Province at Newlands.

Jason Smith smashes Dolphins to monumental victory

Jason Smith smashed the bowlers to all parts to help the Dolphins chase down a revised target of 107 in just seven overs to beat the Titans by seven wickets (DLS) in Centurion.

Smith struck 68 off just 18 deliveries while Bryce Parsons chipped in with 19 and Khaya Zondo 12 as the visitors astonishingly reached the total.

The Titans had earlier piled on a total of 248-3 in their 20 overs with Rivaldo Moonsamy top-scoring with 82 off 49 balls.

Moonsamy shared in an opening partnership of 131 with Lhuan-dre Pretorius, who struck 55 off 36 deliveries.

Heinrich Klaasen then came in a smashed an unbeaten 68 from    24 balls as the home side genuinely thought they had a winning total.

The rain then came during the innings break and the target was reduced, giving the Dolphins the opportunity for victory.

Daniel Smith ton not enough as WP go down to Lions

Daniel Smith scored an unbeaten 103 off just 55 balls but it was not enough for Western Province as they fell to an 18-run defeat against the Lions at Newlands.

Chasing a target of 202, Smith received no real support from the rest of the batting order with the nexxt best score of 29 coming from George Linde.

The Lions had earlier reached 201-2 in their 20 overs with Reeze Hendricks striking a composed unbeaten 68 off 45 balls.

Rassie van der Dussen hit 49 but the innings was give a late boost when Connor Esterhuizen scored 47 from 23 deliveries while Evan Jones stroked 25 not out off just 10 balls.
