West Ham re-sign goalkeeper Łukasz Fabianski

West Ham have confirmed the return of veteran goalkeeper Łukasz Fabianski on a contract that runs until the end of the season.

The 40-year-old former Poland international had initially left the club in June 2025 when his previous contract expired, ending a seven-year spell at the London Stadium. During that time, he made 216 appearances, was named Hammer of the Year in 2019, and played a key role in the Hammers' UEFA Europa Conference League triumph in 2023.

Having spent the off-season as a free agent, Fabianski re-joins the squad following the departure of third-choice goalkeeper Wes Foderingham, who signed for Cypriot club Aris Limassol earlier this week.

"I'm really happy to be back because this club obviously means a lot to me," said Fabianski. "Seeing the people at the club again felt nice and beautiful. I've always been, and I will continue to be, a player who puts the team above personal goals. I'm here to support, to keep the standards high, and to contribute with my experience in any way I can. I understand that my role is different now, but I'll continue to work at a high level."

West Ham manager Graham Potter welcomed Fabianski's return, citing his professionalism and experience as key factors in the decision.

"We are really pleased to have Ã…ukasz back with the group," said Potter. "Regardless of him being here previously, the main factor is that he is still a top goalkeeper and a top professional. It's a signing that makes perfect sense for everyone.

"Ã…ukasz knows the club extremely well, is very well respected and popular among everyone here. His personality and character will be a great example, especially to our younger players. He really cares about West Ham United and wants to help in any way he can."

Fabianski's return adds depth and leadership to the goalkeeper ranks at West Ham, with Danish international Mads Hermansen, signed from Leicester for around 20 million pounds in August, currently the club's first-choice goalkeeper. Frenchman Alphonse Areola recently featured in the Carabao Cup defeat to Wolves.
