TS Galaxy Queens midfielder says the club is yet to reach potential

Defender Erin Herz believes that TS Galaxy Queens are yet to reach their potential. In only their second year in the Hollywoodbets Super League, they are holding their own.

After some indifferent results at the start of 2024, they seem to have found their footing with the return of head coach Sizwe Sibiya – in five matches under him, they won four, and drew one. With a star-studded line-up of Banyana Banyana players like, among others, Nicole Michael, Mamello Makhabane, Nothando Vilakazi, Busisiwe Ndimeni and Nomvula Kgoale, Herz admits they had a slow start, but they are back on track.

''I would say slow. Maybe not up to our standard as we would set for ourselves but we are back in the hands of our coach, who helped us to do well last year and already we have seen success in the few days he's been in charge,'' said Herz.

After finishing fourth in their first season in the elite women’s football league in 2023, Herz says they are eyeing the number one spot and she believes they have what it takes to challenge for the position.

''I think we can challenge, we do need our oppositions to slip up a couple of times, I was looking at the log. But we are really on the hills,'' added Herz

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have won all five editions of the South African elite women’s football league, making them a stumbling block for teams like TS Galaxy Queens. But Herz says they can be conquered.

After 11 months on the sidelines due to an injury, Herz is back on the field of play. She received a standing ovation when she came on in the second half in the 2-0 victory over TUT Matsatsantsa Ladies in Pretoria on Saturday. She says it was a difficult period waiting to return to play.
