Topflight experience, another key driver for Amajita at AFCON U20 - Neo Rapoo

The experience of Amajita players, in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and also in CAF inter-club competitions, will be another big factor coming to tonight’s crunch encounter against Zambia in the U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

A win for Ray Mdaka’s Amajita will see them finishing on top of Group A and possibly line-up against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in the quarterfinals. SuperSport United’s Neo Rapoo has been a key member of this team and touches on the experience of top-flight football.

"Yeah, it has been important, obviously some of the guys played DDC and obviously at the big stage we need some experienced players just to help the young ones. I wouldn't say young ones because we are the same age, but just the way they play and just to help them and encourage them in each and every game," Rapoo said.

Rapoo played a big role in the previous game, scoring a goal and contributing an assist, as the technical team assigned to a role higher up on the pitch.

A key member of the Amatsatsansa a Pitori squad, Rapoo says the 4-1 win over Sierra Leone was actually a very tough game.

"It was tough man, it was very tough but I think the attitude within the guys was just fantastic and of course we saw those guys and their faces that these guys are not under20 but we just worked hard as a team and we just got all the points we needed and we just carried on from there," he added.

Another top talent in this Amajita team, with all his challenges having been on the sidelines at Cape Town Spurs the whole season, has been Siiviwe Nkwali.

Originally picked for the right-back position, he was moved to the centre-back after captain Asekho Tiwani got injured and now he’s very much a key member of this season.

"It's good, man, the team is united, we're all united. We have an objective to fulfil so we have to fulfil our objective. I've seen the team play, I've watched a couple of games, so I saw the playing style that they have, so it was a little bit easy because I just had to blend in, so that's how it happened,” Nkwali said.

“I'm comfortable in both positions, I can play right back and also be more comfortable at centre back. So, it wasn't something that was gonna be different for me."
