'There's no panic from either side' - Harry Kane opens Bayern contract talks

The 33-year-old striker revealed discussions had started after Bayern opened their Bundesliga season with a convincing 5-1 home victory over Stuttgart.

"The first meeting started last week," Kane told reporters.

Kane joined Bayern from Tottenham in 2023 and his current contract runs until 2027. The striker said there was still plenty to discuss, but made it clear that both he and the club were approaching the negotiations calmly.

"I'm 33. It's probably going to be not my last contract, but it's a big contract for me to sign," Kane said.

"They need to make sure I'm happy. They obviously need to make sure they're happy. There's no panic from either side.

"I'm sure we'll get to a point where both sides are happy."

Bayern have repeatedly made clear that they want Kane to remain at the club beyond his current deal, following another outstanding season from the England captain.

Kane scored 36 goals in 31 Bundesliga appearances last season, helping Bayern win the league and cup double. His remarkable campaign also saw him score 73 goals for club and country, including six during England's run to the World Cup semi-finals.

The striker is also among the leading contenders for the Ballon d'Or, which will be awarded in London in October.
