Themba Zwane gives Sundowns camp update ahead of CAF CL final

Mamelodi Sundowns captain Themba Zwane says the team has settled in Morocco following their travel delays and are ready to build on the momentum from the first leg of the CAF Champions League final against AS FAR.

As previously reported by SABC Sport, the Tshwane giants lost valuable preparation time after their charter flight to Casablanca was delayed at OR Tambo International Airport due to issues relating to a landing permit.

Despite the disruption, Zwane says the camp remains positive ahead of Sunday’s decisive encounter at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, where The Brazilians aim to defend a slender 1-0 advantage from the first leg.

"I think the session was good, obviously we got the time to rest and try to prepare for the session. Before the session obviously we analysed the opponent and we knew what we expected from them and today was just those tactics of how we're gonna approach the game, starting slowly after this long travel," Zwane said.

The skipper did not make much of the drama around leaving a day later than expected.

"The trip was long but I think the mood is super okay. Everyone is so excited, you can see the brotherhood, we push one another. We had some fun in the flight and we're trying to keep the mood to be positive as much as we can," he added.

Zwane is one of two players to win the Champions League with Sundowns in 2016, the other being veteran goalkeeper Denis Onyango.

‘Mshishi’ admits his leadership in the dressing room is crucial.

"Yeah, I always try to remind them how big it is and the excitement that we're gonna get overall and we have to push ourselves and try to make history. I think this group will be remembered after 10 years. Overall it's just to remind them that the importance of this game is just to push ourselves."
