Tashreeq Morris heading for fresh start as Chiefs squad overhaul continues

SABC Sport has established that Kaizer Chiefs striker Tashreeq Morris is set to join Durban City ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The move will see the 32-year-old reunite with former AmaKhosi assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef, who has since been appointed by the KZN outfit.

Morris endured a frustrating spell at Chiefs over the last year or so, making just four appearances across all competitions after featuring regularly following his surprise arrival from SuperSport United in January 2025.

Handpicked by then head coach Nasreddine Nabi to bolster the attack, the striker initially made a positive impression but gradually fell down the pecking order.

Despite attracting interest from elsewhere previously – including City and Stellenbosch FC – Morris is understood to have wanted to remain at Naturena and fight for his place during the time of the previous transfer window.

He forced his way back into the side towards the end of the campaign and even found the back of the net, but it has since been decided that he is surplus to requirements.

Chiefs are continuing to reshape their squad ahead of the arrival of new coach Fernando Da Cruz, who is expected to begin pre-season next week.

With the club strengthening its attacking options through players such as Etiosa Ighodaro, Glody Lilepo, Flavio Silva and Khanyisa Mayo, opportunities for Morris were expected to become increasingly limited.

A move to Durban City now offers the experienced forward the chance to revive his career under a coach who knows him well, while Chiefs continue to streamline their squad ahead of a new chapter under Da Cruz.
