Stephen Warnock: Criticism of Chelsea frontman Nicolas Jackson is harsh

Stephen Warnock has come out in defence of young Chelsea frontman Nicolas Jackson.

The 22-year-old Senegalese striker joined the Blues this season from Villareal.

He has gone on to score an impressive 16 goals in 41 games in all competitions, alongside six assists.

Jackson has come under fire for a number of high-profile misses, but the former Blackburn, Aston Villa, Leeds and Liverpool defender feels the players deserves to be credited for a strong first season in the Premier League.

Warnock, who currently works as a pundit for Sky Sports defended the attacker by explaining that his goal-scoring record is better than a certain former Chelsea legend.

He explained: "I think maybe we've been a little bit harsh on Nicolas Jackson at times because he's missed so may opportunities.

"His actual return in his first season in the Premier League's been better than Didier Drogba.

"He maybe should have had 5-10 more goals because of the chances created for him.

"I think that's just how harsh criticism can be of certain players."

Jackson scored 13 goals in 38 games for Villareal last season, with five assists.
