The 28-year-old joined the Tshwane giants last season under coach Rulani Mokwena but appears out of favour at the moment.
When approached for comment regarding the latest developments on potential signings for the second half of the campaign, Stellies CEO Rob Benadie confirmed the club would consider several options, but would not reveal names.
“There are potential player movement discussions like always during the windows, but out of respect for the parties involved and the early stages of the process, we cannot make any specific comments. Once things are at a more advanced stage, we can share,” Benadie told the public broadcaster.
It’s understood Nku is one of the priority targets.
In his debut season at Sundowns, shortly after moving there from Marumo Gallants – who were relegated – Nku featured 28 times and scored five goals, receiving rave reviews from the now former coach.
Mokwena was shielding the utility player from frustrated fans who were booing Nku during one of the games last season.
The player appears to now be forgotten as he is yet to play a single match for The Brazilians having struggled to break into the team under Manqoba Mngqithi and now Miguel Cardoso, who was appointed Downs coach a month ago.
With the transfer window deadline fast approaching on 25 January, the clock is ticking for Stellies to get this potential deal over the line.
Nku is still contracted to Sundowns until June 2028 and his departure would mean any interested suitor has to buy him out.
