Crowie's U17 side seal Africa Cup of Nations qualification

The South Africa U17 boys side sealed qualification for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations following a 5-1 victory over hosts Malawi in the COSAFA Championship on Friday night.

Amajita, led by former Santos striker Duncan Crowie, are also through to the final of the regional tournament and face Zambia at Bingu National Stadium on Sunday.

Crowie says the scoreline was flattering.

"The result, I don't think it [was] a 5-1 game. Malawi came at us, the first half was tough for us and we scored only one goal, but they had opportunities and put us under pressure as well,"

"We were fortunate to score the goal in the first half and again as soon as the second half started, then they started putting us under pressure.

"When they got that goal, there was a spell of seven or eight minutes that they had us under pressure, and we couldn't hold onto the ball for long.

"But when the boys started holding onto the ball, putting passes together and keeping possession for a while, then we moved them around again and that was the important change in the game – that's when we scored the third, fourth and fifth goals."

Crowie wants to build on the second-half display against Malawi going into the final.

"We'll think about the Zambia game tomorrow [Saturday]. Ja, it's a final and it will be easy for me to motivate the players because every player that plays in a final, that motivates them already," he concluded.
