Sacha Boey praised after promising display in Bayern Munich's win over Chelsea

French full-back Sacha Boey enjoyed a much-needed moment of redemption on Wednesday night, playing a key role in Bayern Munich's 3–1 Champions League victory over Chelsea.

The 25-year-old has endured a difficult spell since joining Die Roten, with his transfer widely regarded as underwhelming due to a combination of injuries and inconsistent performances.

Despite those struggles, Boey has remained part of the squad, often waiting for opportunities to prove his worth.

One such chance arrived in the high-stakes clash against Chelsea. Introduced as a substitute in the second half, Boey produced a superb performance that steadied Bayern at a crucial stage of the match.

His energy and defensive assurance helped the German champions see out an impressive win against their Premier League opponents.

The display was met with delight by Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund, who praised Boey's resilience and quality in the aftermath.

For the Frenchman, it was arguably his most convincing moment in Bayern colours, hinting at the potential the club believed in when securing his services.

"He came on unprepared because [Josip] Stanisic got injured. It was a moment when Chelsea were still in the game at 2-1," said Freund.

"He seemed to win every challenge, played a really good game and set up Michael Olise's huge chance. He played a top game, and I'm extremely happy for him.

"His time here so far hasn't been easy; he was injured a lot in the beginning. It's not easy for him, but when you see how he's working in training, I'm just happy for him that he's shown his worth again over a longer period of time in an important game. It's a good story; everyone was very, very happy with him."

Although his Bayern journey has so far been defined by setbacks, Wednesday's showing suggests Boey may yet carve out an important role.
