Ademola Lookman faces fan backlash ahead of Atalanta return

Ademola Lookman's return to Atalanta's first-team has ignited debate among supporters, with some fans labelling the Nigerian winger "ungrateful."

The 26-year-old, who was once a pivotal figure for the Bergamo side, has been sidelined since August following a transfer request. Lookman's frustration came after Atalanta rejected a 45-million-euro bid from Inter Milan, Pulse Sport Nigeria reported.

The fallout was compounded when he criticised the club publicly on social media and missed a significant portion of pre-season under new manager Ivan Juric.

Last week, Lookman was surprisingly reintegrated into first-team training, signalling a potential revival in his Atalanta career. However, sections of the fanbase made their disapproval clear, unfurling a banner reading: "No. 11 reintegrated but for us, you remain ungrateful."

Atalanta president Antonio Percassi addressed the tension, praising Lookman's ability but emphasising the importance of full commitment.

"To play here you have to be 100% focused," Percassi said, hinting that the winger's future in Bergamo depends on his attitude and dedication going forward.

Lookman, who was Atalanta's second-highest scorer last season, still has the potential to influence the team in both Serie A and European competition. His performances with the Super Eagles have shown he remains sharp and ready for action.

Yet, whether he can win back the trust of the Curva Nord remains uncertain. With January transfer talks looming, the coming weeks may determine if Lookman's next chapter is continued success in Bergamo or a fresh start elsewhere.
