Ruben Amorim feeling good after Man Utd's hard-fought win over Newcastle

Ruben Amorim oversaw the win after implementing a notable tactical shift, abandoning his usual system in favour of a back four. United initially lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, a change that appeared to unsettle Newcastle in the early stages.

Patrick Dorgu was deployed on the right wing and proved decisive, scoring the only goal of the match with a well-taken first-half volley that beat Aaron Ramsdale.

The goal was a significant moment for the 21-year-old Denmark international, who joined United from Lecce last winter.

Dorgu has endured a difficult spell since his arrival but delivered an assured and energetic performance, suggesting growing confidence under Amorim.

United could have extended their lead before the break, with Casemiro and Benjamin Sesko both going close, while Matheus Cunha impressed with driving runs from deep.

Newcastle responded after half-time as Eddie Howe adjusted tactically and his side increased the pressure. Sesko struck the crossbar on a counter-attack, and Lewis Hall later hit the underside of the bar as the visitors searched for an equaliser.

United subsequently switched to a 4-4-2, with Dorgu and Diogo Dalot operating as wingers, and Dalot came close to adding a second goal.

Despite Newcastle finishing strongly and being the more attacking side late on, they lacked the cutting edge required.

United, bolstered by the return of Lisandro Martinez to the starting line-up, produced a resolute defensive display, with Martinez surviving a VAR check for a potential penalty.

"The feeling is good. If you compared to other games, we suffered so much more today but in certain moments we put everything on the line," said Amorim after the win.

"We are defending every cross. Especially if you see the second half, sometimes we managed to defend with a back six.

"We had so many games when we controlled the opponent so much better, but it is a good feeling to have a clean sheet. We suffered together. If we always have this spirit, we are going to win so many games."
