Royal AM down Stellenbosch in style

On Sunday afternoon, Royal AM claimed a 3-1 victory over Stellenbosch FC to improve their chances of finishing in the top eight of the DStv Premiership.

Happy Jele made his first start for Royal AM, while Mxolisi Macuphu returned to the attack. Stellies featured goalkeeper Lee Langeveldt and Jayden Adams, who both played in the loss to Kaizer Chiefs.

Junior Mendieta scored the first goal for Royal AM after 15 minutes, but veteran attacker Elias Pelembe equalized for Stellies just three minutes later. Iqraam Rayners appeared to have put Stellies ahead in the 30th minute, but his goal was disallowed for offside. Mthokozisi Dube then scored for Royal AM just before halftime.

In the second half, Nhlanhla Mgaga replaced former Royal AM striker Andre de Jong. Shaune Mogaila scored for Royal AM six minutes before full-time to secure the win.

Royal AM controlled the game in the final few minutes and claimed maximum points, boosting their chances of finishing in the top eight.

AmaZulu snatch late draw at Cape Town City

In the final match of the weekend, Cape Town City surrendered a two-goal lead after losing a man to a red card, as AmaZulu earned a 2-2 draw in the Mother City.

City opened their account midway through the first half when Katlego Mokhuoane crossed for Khanyisa Mayo to score.

Darwin Gonzalez then doubled City's lead just before the half-hour mark after a swift counter-attack.

But City were reduced to ten men midway through the second half after Thabo Nodada committed a poor foul in a dangerous area and was sent off.

The visitors took advantage of their numerical advantage and won a penalty after Augustine Kwem was fouled, but Darren Keet saved Bonginkosi Ntuli's spot-kick.

Ntuli did eventually score for Usuthu, however, drawing them level after applying the finishing touch to the assist from Riaan Hanamub.

Then, in the dying seconds of injury time, Kwem scored with a header from Mhango's cross to earn AmaZulu a point.
