Folz unhappy with refs despite Usuthu cup victory

AmaZulu coach Romain Folz came down hard on the match officials in charge of their Nedbank Cup fixture against ABC Motsepe League outfit Tornado FC on Sunday, even after winning the match 3-2.

The Usuthu mentor was visibly annoyed during the press conference, telling journalists that it was becoming an unfortunate habit for him and his Premier Soccer League colleagues to criticise referees.

Folz questioned the two goals scored by Tornado as they very nearly clawed their way back.

"I believe we had full control of the game all the way up to the last 10 minutes. I'd like someone who was in the stands because I didn't see any replay to tell me if the second goal was offside, yes or no? I'm 100% it was offside, at least one of the two goals is invalid," he said.

AmaZulu went into the half time break leading 2-0, adding a third later before inviting a nervous finish to the cup clash.

But Folz argues Tornado got a little bit of help from referee Siyabulela Qunta.

"I feel like we always have the same chat after every game and people think we complain because we drew or lost. We won today but I'm saying the same thing, it was bad. You know how many freekicks they had in the second half? 15. You know how many we had, four. I hope for the upcoming games, league and cup I hope that the game is the topic of discussion after the game," he added.

SABC Sport has reported that there is a referee crisis with SAFA yet to appoint a National Referees Committee since last year’s elections.

Coaches are now seeing that too.

"I don't want my words to be misinterpreted, I'm not insulting anyone. I'm not saying he was against us in particular. I'm saying it was not a good performance from a referee, as much as we are also not perfect. We missed a lot of chances; we could have scored 12. We have our weaknesses but there's only that much that you can deal with it," he concluded.
