Richards Bay remaining calm despite three-match losing streak

Richards Bay FC co-coach Ronnie Gabriel, whose side slumped to their third successive Betway Premiership defeat of the new season, says it’s still too early to ring the alarm bells.

Bay lost 1-0 to Kaizer Chiefs in a league match played at FNB Stadium last night, succumbing to Gaston Sirino’s second-half goal.

Despite being at the bottom of the log, Gabriel is confident they will soon turn the corner.

"Look, it's not the best start to the season and no team would like this kind of start, but based on the performance from our first two games – today we were not the best, we must admit but, in terms of scoring chances, final third entries, possession, we did well.

"We actually dominated the opposition in our first two matches, although we lost, we're coming from good performances without the results.

"So we came here and we have this type of performance, yes, ideally we would like to pick up points, but it was not to be.

"But remember, we're also blooding in a lot of youngsters into the team, getting them used to the riguors of the PSL, and we're confident it will come right going forward."

It’s still not clear what the ambitions of the Rich Boyz are this season, with the coach unclear when asked about the mandate this season.

"There's not actually a mandate, the team would like to ideally improve on our position from last season, that's how we wanted to start the season," he explained.

"So that's basically our target for the season, but in terms of an actual mandate, no, [there is] no actual mandate, we want to improve on last year's league position."
