Khalil Ben Youssef urges Kaizer Chiefs ruthlessness in final third

Chiefs maintained their perfect start to the season, picking up their third straight win with a 1-0 result against the Natal Rich Boys at FNB Stadium, courtesy of a second-half goal from Gaston Sirino.

Ben Youssef felt they could have scored more goals in this game, but were not decisive in punishing the opponents – something the Tunisian-born coach says they addressed with the players immediately after the final whistle.

"I think from the beginning of the first half, we took the game – the intensity was there and we got a lot of opportunities to score," said Ben Youssef.

"I was happy for the first 15 minutes, but after we scored the first goal, we have to always think of killing the game off and score the second goal.

"Our players started to enjoy with the fans, and I can understand, but we discussed that in the change room now – you always have to take it serious to finish the game.

"But let me say congratulations to them, I think they deserved [the victory] and they played a very good game today."

While Amakhosi could – and perhaps should – have added one or two more goals with the chances they created, Ben Youssef praised the defensive discipline to keep a clean sheet and claim the important three points.

"I think we should say congratulations to Richards Bay, even after they conceded the goal, they stayed in a low block, maybe they decided not to play in this game but only to defend, so they didn't give us much opportunity or space," he added.

"But I think in the last 15 minutes, we got two or three opportunities to score the second goal, but we were unlucky not to score this goal.

"Whether we win 1-0 or 2-0, the important thing is to win, it's three points, a clean sheet, so we are so happy about the defensive organisation.

"I think there's a big difference between this season and last season, and that's the most important thing for us, but there's still a lot of work to do with the new players also.

"Remember that until now, we're waiting to start with our new players, but like I said before, I think with our new players our performances will get better."
