Real Madrid confirm signing Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate on four-year deal

Real Madrid have completed the signing of Ibrahima Konate from Liverpool, with the France international joining the Spanish giants on a four-year contract until June 2030.

The defender arrives at the Santiago Bernabeu after reaching the end of his deal at Anfield, bringing an end to a successful spell with Liverpool that began in 2021 following his transfer from RB Leipzig.

Konate made 183 appearances for the Premier League club and played a key role in their trophy-winning years, helping them secure the Premier League title in 2025 and the FA Cup in 2022, along with other honours.

Real Madrid confirmed the agreement in a statement, saying: "Real Madrid and Ibrahima Konate have reached an agreement for him to become a Real Madrid player for the next four seasons, until June 30, 2030."

The 27-year-old joins Madrid while representing France at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and became one of several major additions as the club looked to rebuild their squad.

The arrival of Konate follows the appointment of Jose Mourinho as head coach, while Real have also strengthened their squad with the signings of Spain left-back Marc Cucurella and Portugal midfielder Bernardo Silva.

The Spanish giants entered the summer transfer window looking to refresh their team after two consecutive seasons without winning a major trophy. They have also been linked with Inter Milan wing-back Denzel Dumfries as they continue to add depth.

Defensively, Madrid secured the future of Antonio Rudiger by extending his contract until 2027, but they were forced to reshape their back line following the departures of Dani Carvajal and David Alaba at the end of their contracts.
