RB Leipzig agree deal for Brazilian forward Romulo Cardoso to replace Benjamin Sesko

RB Leipzig have filled the void left by Benjamin Sesko, confirming the signing of Brazilian forward Romulo Cardoso from Turkish club Goztepe in a deal worth 25 million euros.

As reported by transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, the agreement includes 20 million in fixed payments, a further 5 million in performance-related add-ons, and a sell-on clause.

Sesko's recent 74 million pounds switch made him Leipzig's second most lucrative sale in history, behind only Josko Gvardiol's 90-million-euro move to Manchester City in 2023. The club have acted decisively to secure Romulo as his replacement.

The 22-year-old arrives on the back of a stellar 2024/25 campaign in Turkey, netting 17 goals and providing 10 assists in 33 appearances across all competitions for Goztepe.

His time in Izmir began with a loan spell from Brazilian side Athletico Paranaense, before a permanent transfer was sealed in early 2025.

Leipzig are working to register Romulo in time for Saturday's DFB-Pokal clash with Sandhausen.

Should the paperwork not be completed in time, his debut is expected to come in a blockbuster Bundesliga opener against Bayern Munich next Friday.
