Pyramids winger Sodiq Awujoola issues Mamelodi Sundowns warning

Pyramids winger Sodiq Awujoola could not hide how confident they are of beating Mamelodi Sundowns to win the CAF Champions League on Sunday.

The Nigerian international argued this was part of the Egyptian side’s genetics to becoming a powerhouse on the continent following the investment by the hierarchy back in 2018.

On the cusp of seeing that through this weekend when they host Sundowns in the final second leg at 30 June Stadium in Cairo, Awujoola believes they can finish the job following their 1-1 draw at Loftus Versfeld Stadium last Saturday.

"This is a big club, you know, and the players here have a good mentality, so everyday we train hard to achieve our goals – that's Pyramids for you, we don't sit back," said Awujoola.

"We are a big club, like I said before, so we don't fear to play as a big club, and we will play as we always play."

Awujoola remained cautious, however, not to undermine the 2016 champions even as he spoke buoyantly about Pyramids’ chances.

"The game is very hard [sic], it's a Champions League final, it's a very big game. We played very well in the first leg in South Africa, so hopefully tomorrow we are going to win and be champions, Inshallah," he added.

With Pyramids seeking to dethrone Al Ahly as Egyptian Premier League champions via the Court of Arbitration for Sport, Awujoola admits it’s a painful situation.

"Yes, it's very painful because, from the beginning of the season, we worked very hard to achieve the league [title], but it is what it is," noted the Nigerian.

The Heirs of the Pharaohs are looking to have an earlier three-point deduction against Al Ahly upheld, after the Egyptian Premier League rescinded their initial sanction.

Should CAS rule in their favour, Pyramids would subsequently be crowned EPL champions, winning the championship by one point.
