Pyramids play cards close to chest ahead of Sundowns decider

The usually outspoken Croatian-born mentor did not reveal much during the press conference on the eve of the big fixture at the 30 June Stadium.

Pyramids scored a crucial away goal in the 1-1 draw in Tshwane a week ago and Jurcic was quizzed on whether he was tempted to be ultra-defensive.

He also did not give much away on what he’d learned about Sundowns.

“We will play our way, for Sundowns, I don’t know but we will play our way. It’s difficult for me to speak about Sundowns but I know Sundowns play the same type of football, whether they play in Pretoria or outside,” Jurcic said.

“What I saw in this Champions League and I think they played the same type of football in this Champions League. This is what I think, I can’t speak about Sundowns.”

What Jurcic promised was a show, especially given the sudden interest in the match as Pyramids aren’t used to the attention in Egypt.

“I’m very happy to see so much journalists in our press conference because I know that we did a great job, usually we don’t have journalists in our press conference. Yesterday when I saw how many people wanted the tickets for the match in the same moment, I saw that we did a great job,” he added.

“Now about football, yes we are playing the second match final of the Champions League, we are very happy because we are playing the final match of the Champions League, this is first.

“Secondly, we are playing one big club like Sundowns, we respect Sundowns but we respect our results in the last season. What we made, how we played in football, I have to say that I’m very proud of my guys because they played one excellent season.

“What I want to say one more time, my changing room, is we are Pyramids, we made a lot on this level as Pyramids now we need this cup. Now we want this gold, we want this final touch. We respect Sundowns but we play good football.”
