Pedro Porro commits future to Tottenham with new long-term contract

The Spain international had entered the final two years of his previous deal and attracted interest from several leading European clubs, but has opted to remain in north London as Tottenham continue their rebuild under head coach Roberto De Zerbi. The agreement is understood to include an option for a further 12 months and will make Porro one of the club's highest earners.

The 26-year-old has established himself as a key figure since initially arriving from Sporting CP on loan in January 2023 before completing a permanent 40 million pound move later that year. He has since made 152 appearances for Spurs, contributing 13 goals and 26 assists, while becoming one of the squad's most dependable performers during a period marked by recurring injury problems.

Porro featured 47 times in all competitions last season, more than any other Tottenham player, and played an important role during De Zerbi's seven-match spell in charge as the club secured Premier League survival on the final day of the campaign.

De Zerbi welcomed the defender's decision to extend his stay, describing him as one of the team's most influential players.

"Pedro is a very important player for us, who has consistently shown his ability to influence matches in both defensive and attacking situations," De Zerbi said.

"As well as his technical quality, I also love his mentality. Every day he wants to work, to learn and to improve, and these are the characteristics that help players reach the highest level.

"He understands football in a very intelligent way, and brings energy, intensity and personality to the team."

Tottenham sporting director Johan Lange also praised Porro's development since arriving at the club.

"During the past three-and-half years, he has made huge progress to become one of the best full-backs in the game, and the fact he is about to play in the World Cup for Spain is testament to that," Lange said.

"His character, work ethic and quality are exactly what we look for when building a squad capable of competing at the highest level and we are delighted that he has chosen to continue his journey with the club."

Porro's extension continues an active summer at Tottenham. The club have already added Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free transfers, while efforts to strengthen further remain ongoing. Spurs have seen two bids rejected for Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke, while reports suggest negotiations have also involved highly rated youngster Luka Vuskovic.

Currently away with Spain at the 2026 World Cup, Porro will now return to Tottenham after the tournament with his long-term future secured, providing another boost for De Zerbi as he prepares for his first full season in charge.
