Oswin Appollis salivating at prospect of first career trophy

Orlando Pirates' new signing Oswin Appollis is relishing the opportunity to get his hands on silverware following his move to a club that regularly competes for trophies.

The Bafana Bafana international, who has an Africa Cup of Nations bronze medal to his name, will be hoping he can help The Buccaneers defend their MTN8 title for a record fourth successive time.

Pirates kick off their quest in the 2025/26 season-opening tie against Polokwane City at Orlando Stadium this afternoon, and Appollis has plenty to look forward to as he begins life in black and white.

"Getting my first trophy as a footballer. I mean, who doesn’t wanna win trophies? Plus helping the team when I’m called up to come to do my job,” Appollis responded, when asked by the club's official website what his aspirations are.

Reflecting on his biggest career move so far, the 23-year-old says he has been openly welcomed following his swift decision to put pen to paper.

"It’s amazing. I’m happy to be part of this big club and the teammates have been great to me," he noted.

"Growing up, watching Pirates was amazing and most of my good friends support the club. The day they inquired about me, I didn’t hesitate to sign."

With his first assignment on the pitch coming against none other than Rise and Shine, where he rose to prominence over the past two seasons, Appollis highlighted that his focus will be solely on his new team's objectives.

"Of course, It’s going to be difficult as they are a strong team. Most importantly, we have to focus on what we do as a group," he said.
