The Citizens were missing key players due to a number of ‘out-of-contract’ players leaving the club and suspensions.
Despite a quick turnaround following their opening playoff fixture on Wednesday, Makhoye believes his players showed composure under pressure and earned a valuable point away from home.
“In the first half we didn’t create too many chances but I’m happy with the boys, they stuck to the plan. The plan was to frustrate them, making sure that they don’t get an early goal because we saw that they brought speed, they brought the young boys because of the game that we played on Wednesday,” Makhoye said.
“Maybe they were thinking of using more speed, I think our game plan worked really well, second half, especially after the introduction of Lukhele [Ayanda] because we were able to win spaces. So, that’s why we’re able to go with two strikers, it’s unfortunate that we didn’t score.”
While no goals scored in the playoffs so far, Makhoye acknowledged that while his team is defensively solid, they need to improve their attacking sharpness if they want to stay in contention.
He emphasized the importance of converting chances in this tightly contested mini-league.
“We had to change it, I was saying to the boys that these playoffs are going to be difficult especially because we are not a conceding team.
"If you can check the stats also, we conceded only 19 goals in 30 games, so what we need to do is to work on sharpness especially in front of goal. I think we just need one win, especially one goal, I think it will change everything.
