No time to lick wounds: Ronwen Williams eyes quick response against Chiefs

Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has stressed the importance of bouncing back quickly from their MTN8 disappointment as they prepare for a crucial Betway Premiership clash away to in-form Kaizer Chiefs tomorrow night.

The Brazilians were knocked out of the cup by Orlando Pirates in a tense penalty shoot-out in the semifinals, extending their wait for a domestic cup trophy.

Looking ahead to the showdown against Amakhosi—who boast a perfect league record with three wins from three—Williams admitted that morale in the Sundowns camp has taken a hit and called for an immediate response in what promises to be another stern test.

"Yeah, obviously not a good space to be in now, you can see the guys are still a bit down and the mood is not one of the best. Obviously we had big objectives, to start the campaign on a positive note which was to go all the way in the MTN8 but it wasn't to be. We just have to dust ourselves off and go again," Williams said.

Williams says there’s been a lot of introspection since the past weekend.

"The mood is not best but we had a nice reflection, we had a nice meeting to see the good and the bad moments of the past game and to reflect and just to move forward now,” the goalie added.

“You know when there's a lot of lessons, tough lessons to take out of the defeat and we all sad, our supporters, we are all in this together. We are all feeling the effects of getting knocked out, so, we just need to draw positives, draw, just some love and support from one another in this difficult moment and today was just to get back to the field.

“To keep going, to work on the next games, big assignment coming up against Kaizer Chiefs, one that we are looking forward to and yeah, for us, we've got a rule at the club, after a match you have 24 hours it's either to be sad or 24 hours to celebrate and once that has passed, it's time to focus and look forward to the next match."
