Nathan Peskin feels positive despite disappointing league debut

Stellenbosch FC Ladies coach Nathan Peskin says the first Hollywoodbets Super League Amplified festival in Soweto gave the team experience and insight into the high demands of the league.

The newcomers suffered a 3-0 defeat to the University of Pretoria in their debut clash at the UJ Soweto Stadium.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Peskin says the match gave the technical team an opportunity to assess where the side currently stands and identify areas that need improvement while learning from other coaches.

"The first festival was a great opportunity for us so that we can just experience how things are and acclimatise to conditions, as well as the pressure that builds up when you're watching one team and then you have to go and perform.

"It was a great experience, and it was a great opportunity for our girls to see where the levels are at compared to where their levels are."

Peskin also reflected on the defeat to Tuks, saying the opposition were clinical and exposed areas his side needs to improve on going forward.

The second league festival will take place at Tuks Stadium from 19 to 21 June, where the Cape Winelands outfit will face the University of the Western Cape.

Peskin says the team will focus on its strengths ahead of what he expects to be a tough Western Cape derby.

"It will be very strange because we're playing each other as two Western Cape teams but we are playing away. UWC are obviously more accustomed to things than we are, they are a top side with great players.

"It's a derby, which doesn't really mean much to us in the context of where we are and where they are currently, but of course there's always that spark in a derby."
