Nasreddine Nabi - Brace for a Stronger Season

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi is confident his team will enjoy a stronger season, having spent the previous campaign laying the foundations for his football philosophy at Amakhosi.

Speaking to SABC Sport during the launch of the new Betway Premiership season in Johannesburg yesterday, Nabi highlighted the significance of the hard work done last term, which culminated in the Nedbank Cup triumph—Chiefs’ first piece of silverware in a decade. The Tunisian Belgian tactician, however, remains realistic about his squad’s progress.

"Last season, we asked for patience because we wanted to introduce new ideas of playing, and during our rebuild, we managed to win one of the most prestigious cups in South African football," asserted Nabi.

In the six friendly matches that Chiefs have played in the pre-season, they have only managed to score three goals, a sign that Amakhosi still have a lot of work to do.

"We will be better than last season. We have improved a lot in our build-up phase, but we have more work to do to score more goals and to become more consistent."

Last season, Nabi was vocal about the quality of players needed at Chiefs to make the team more competitive, and after the additions were brought in, he clarified what he meant last season.

"What I said last season was maybe misinterpreted. I was looking for certain profiles that would fit into my system, I did not say I did not have quality players."

Meanwhile, Nabi has also tackled the critics of newly signed Portuguese striker Flavio Silva, who arrived at Amakhosi at the end of July from Indonesia.

Nabi says he was surprised by the criticism of Silva, and appeals to the fans to afford him time to settle.
