Napoli emerge as new suitors for Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet

Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet finds himself in search of a new club, as it appears his future lies outside of coach Xavi Hernandez's plans.

Having spent the previous season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur, talks of a permanent move back to England were underway.

However, Tottenham are said to have been deterred by Barcelona's ‚¬15 million asking price for the Frenchman.

Undeterred, Napoli, the reigning Serie A champions, have now entered the race as they seek to bolster their defensive line-up following the departure of Kim Min-jae to Bayern Munich.

Previously interested in Kevin Danso, who opted to extend his contract with RC Lens, Napoli are now considering Lenglet as a viable option, according to SPORT reports.

Lenglet's impressive loan stint with Tottenham and his age of 28 have made him an attractive target for Napoli. The allure of playing for the Serie A champions in the UEFA Champions League could also be appealing to the player.

Yet, Napoli face a financial hurdle in meeting Barcelona's ‚¬15 million valuation and Lenglet's salary demands. As a result, a move back to Tottenham remains a potential option, with Lenglet expressing a preference for that destination.

Nonetheless, with negotiations at a standstill, the defender may need to explore other possibilities.

AC Milan, one of Napoli's Serie A rivals, have also reportedly shown interest in Lenglet and aim to secure the deal for approximately ‚¬10 million.

In the midst of uncertainty, Lenglet's future hangs in the balance as he awaits his next destination.
