Mohamed Salah: Liverpool's latest title triumph 'far better' than 2020 success due to fans' presence

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has described the club's most recent Premier League title win as "far better" than their 2020 success, citing the presence of supporters at Anfield as the defining difference.

Liverpool were officially crowned champions following a commanding 5-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. Unlike their previous title win five years ago-secured behind closed doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic - this occasion was marked by a jubilant post-match celebration with a packed stadium.

"It is incredible to win this with our fans," Salah told Sky Sports. "This is 100 ppercent better than last time (in 2020), especially with the fans. We have a different group now, so to show we can do it again is something special."

Salah, who scored his 28th league goal of the season in the win over Spurs, surpassed Sergio Aguero to become the Premier League's all-time leading foreign goal scorer. Despite this personal milestone, the forward emphasized the emotional significance of achieving success in front of a home crowd.

Reflecting on his working relationship with head coach Arne Slot, Salah was candid in his praise: "He is very honest. The Dutch are quite tough but he made our lives easier. I am glad that we have won it here (at Anfield)."

Salah also spoke about his tactical role under Slot, noting how changes in system allowed him to focus more on attacking contributions. "You can see the numbers. Now I don't have to defend much. The tactics are quite different. I said, 'As long as you rest me defensively, I will provide offensively,' so I am glad that I did. He listened a lot and you can see the results."

"When you play in the Premier League you have to defend, but I said I can gamble and make a difference. My number of assists shows that - it's not just about scoring; it's about creating opportunities too."

Looking back at the title-clinching moment, Salah revealed he had hoped Liverpool would secure the trophy on their own terms, rather than relying on results elsewhere.

"Watching the Arsenal - Crystal Palace game, I didn't want to win it then," he said. "I wanted an experience we haven't had before."

With this latest triumph, Salah and Liverpool have not only reclaimed domestic glory but also reconnected with the supporters who make such moments resonate on a deeper level.
