Mduduzi Shabalala nets winner to help Kaizer Chiefs return to winning ways

Kaizer Chiefs were back to winning ways in the DStv Premiership after a 2-1 victory against SuperSport United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Christian Saile had given Amakhosi a first half lead but the visitors equalised from the penalty spot through Terrence Dzvukamanja after the interval before 20-year-old Mduduzi Shabalala netted the winner.

Chiefs came into the contest having not won in their last five league matches, that included four defeats, and were eager to please their demanding supporters.

The Soweto giants made a good start and took the lead in the 19th minute when Saile latched onto a deflected cross inside the box before rifling the ball into the back of the net.

Amakhosi thought they had doubled their advantage on the stroke of halftime when Given Msimango's header crossed the line but he was called back for offside.

Matsatsantsa came close to levelling matters three minutes into the second-half when Bradley Grobler's effort on the edge of the six-yard area struck the crossbar.

The referee then awarded the visitors a penalty after an infringement in the Chiefs box and Dzvukamanja stepped up to bury his spot-kick and level matters on the scoreboard.

Chiefs needed a hero and Shabalala was the man for the occasion as the youngster unleashed a snapshot from the edge of the box that beat Washington Arubi with 14 minutes remaining.

With SuperSport providing little attacking threat toward the end of the game, Chiefs did enough to keep their lead intact and subsequently bagged maximum points.
