Marumo Gallants move to old Siwelele Park to strengthen Bloemfontein ties

Marumo Gallants have strengthened their ties to the city of Bloemfontein with a move to the old Siwelele Park, the training facility previously occupied by Bloemfontein Celtic.

The venue was officially handed over to Gallants by the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality on Saturday under the theme New Beginnings and Community Care.

Among those in attendance at the event was club President Abram Sello himself, who expressed appreciation to the city officials for their new home and promised that they will make sure to improve on their precarious log position to repay their trust.

"Ah the main thing today, we are receiving a venue where Marumo Gallants can practice and prepare for most important games and matches but this has been given by the government in Bloemfontein,” Sello said.

“Both the municipality and the government and we appreciate what they've given to us and we say, we'll give the best out of Marumo Gallants to deliver what they've given to us.

“Yes, the premises have been used before, previously by the clubs locally and now we're gonna look after this place. We'll be based here permanently as long as we are in Bloemfontein and we appreciate what we have been given that's why we called the communities, to say this is your asset, let's look after it together, let's use it together."

The club has not been without its fair share of problems this season.

Apart from winning only four league matches in 20 and languishing in 14th position, they are in the middle of a legal battle with Moroka Swallows regarding their top flight status.

On top of that, just recently they announced the suspension of head coach Alexandre Lafitte citing some insubordination plus a poor run of form.

Sello says they will now be able to focus fully on their football now that they have a permanent home base.

"We don't have to run around, we ran around quite a lot, looking for premises where to train, where to play our DDC and I'm very much thankful to our government, specifically the municipality, for offering these premises which have not been used for a year and a half now,” he added.

“So, it's very great for us to prepare and compete in the league."
