Marumo Gallants could make stunning move to Rustenburg

SABC Sport has reliably been informed that Marumo Gallants are planning to relocate to Rustenburg from Bloemfontein, with the aim of playing their home matches at the revamped Royal Bafokeng stadium and use Olympia Park as an alternative venue.

This would be a stunning move for the club, having moved to the Free State capital just two seasons ago in a bid to leverage some football hungry supporters there.

New information reaching our desk is that the club’s top brass held a meeting with the Mangaung Metro, Free State provincial government, and the Free State Sport Confederation late last week to ventilate some concerns they have regarding playing their home matches at the Dr Rantlai Molemela stadium in Rocklands, while also occasionally utilising the Toyota Stadium in the city centre.

According to a well-placed source, the club aims to relocate to Pretoria and hold their training sessions at TUT, where they’re currently having their pre-season.

We were also informed that the plans for the move are “95 percent complete”, and it’s now just a matter of making the announcement offcial possibly this week.

The Free State Sport Confederation President Edward Saunderson confirmed to the public broadcaster that that the meeting did indeed take place, but said while Marumo voiced out some challenges they’re facing in Bloemfontein, they indicated that they would still like to play there if they receive support from them and the government.

According to Saunderson, they bemoaned the financial strain they’ve been under due to the upkeep of the venues, and the dwindling support from the stands has also left a lot to be desired.

Meanwhile when contacted for comment, Gallants’ Marketing and Communications Director Mosh Matsena completely rubbished the claims, saying they only held the meeting last week for a mandatory contract review. She went on to say that the details and the minutes of that meeting are not for public consumption, and that an announcement will be made should there be a need for one.
