Luis Enrique demands top-level PSG display against Villarreal in Champions League showdown

The PSG coach expects a difficult encounter against a team he believes has the quality, tactical discipline and attacking threat to trouble the European champions.

"If we are not at our highest level, we will not win," Luis Enrique said at his pre-match press conference.

He dismissed the idea that PSG's status as favourites would give them an advantage, insisting his players must approach the match with the right attitude from the opening whistle.

"They have a good squad with a very good manager. We must show from the opening minute that we are ready and determined to win the match," he added.

Enrique also highlighted Villarreal's ability to press aggressively and keep possession, warning that PSG would need to be sharp and disciplined to deal with their approach.

"It will be tough to bypass their press. I relish these kinds of challenges, so we must stay alert across the board to secure a positive result," he said.

The Spaniard insisted his team's preparations and expectations remain unchanged regardless of the competition or the players selected.

"These are vital points. Our goal is to perform well in every single fixture. Regardless of the competition or who is playing, we strive to improve," he explained.

Enrique was also full of praise for Villarreal coach Inigo Perez, whom he knows from his time in Spanish football.

He described Perez as an intelligent young manager with a clear footballing philosophy and believes he has a bright future ahead of him.

"He is a sharp, young coach with a style of play I admire. When a team radiates positive energy, there is a great manager behind it," Luis Enrique said.

While acknowledging Villarreal have faced difficulties adjusting to the demands of domestic and European football, he believes their progress under Perez is heading in the right direction.

"I have no doubt that Inigo will enjoy very successful years here," he concluded.
