Leeds land Lyon goalkeeper Lucas Perri in latest statement signing

Leeds United have added further steel between the sticks with the signing of Brazilian goalkeeper Lucas Perri from Lyon, marking their seventh addition of a busy transfer window.

The 27-year-old joins for a reported fee of 15.6 million pounds and has signed a four-year deal at Elland Road, becoming the club's seventh addition of the transfer window.

Perri enjoyed an impressive 2024-25 season in France, making 45 appearances in all competitions and keeping 13 clean sheets as Lyon finished sixth in Ligue 1 to secure European qualification.

"It's incredible - a dream come true," Perri told the club's official media. "When I realised the interest from Leeds was serious, I started watching videos of the stadium and the fans. I'm really happy to be here."

A product of Sao Paulo's academy, Perri made his professional breakthrough with Botafogo before earning a move to Europe in 2023. Though yet to feature for Brazil at senior level, he has represented his country at U20 and U23 levels.

His arrival adds competition to Leeds' goalkeeping department following a season of inconsistency in the position. Illan Meslier began last season as the club's first choice but was dropped in the final weeks of the campaign after a string of high-profile errors, with Karl Darlow stepping in for the promotion run-in.

Perri joins a growing list of arrivals under manager Daniel Farke, including midfielder Sean Longstaff from Newcastle United, left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson from Lille, centre-backs Jaka Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw from Udinese and Wolfsburg respectively, and forward Lukas Nmecha, also from Wolfsburg.

Leeds are preparing for their Premier League return with clear intent, bolstering key areas of the squad as they aim to re-establish themselves in the top flight. With the addition of Perri, Farke now has an experienced and physically dominant option in goal as the club prepares for a demanding 2025-26 campaign.
