Kholosa Biyana urges the public and media to support local women's football

As the domestic women’s football programme returns tomorrow, Banyana Banyana midfield enforcer Kholosa Biyana has urged the general public and the media to continue with their support of the game like they were doing during the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Hollywoodbets Super League 2023 season will resume tomorrow with the Tshwane derby between the University of Pretoria and Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) at the Tuks stadium.

A full fixture will also be played this coming weekend. Generally, there has been a lack of support for this league from the public, and Biyana that things will improve now.

"No definitely because for me it doesn't matter sense to just be supported on TV. I think for me we need people to come and watch our games," Biyana said.

"I also think not just people, I think the media houses also, they have to come on board, they have to support us and they have to show South Africa what we have because the only way to invite the cooperate is through media and I think they are gonna do what they have to do."

Banyana had a huge following back home during the World Cup which took place in New Zealand and Australia, as they went on to win their first game in this tournament and also reached the knockout phase for the first time.

Biyana is hoping that this support will also continue with Banyana matches played at home, as they normally play in front of empty stands where there is also free entry for the fans.

"I wasn't surprised, I knew people were gonna follow us. I think as Banyana Banyana people have been following us but I think for me like you said, it's sad because when we play at home, we don't see people coming to our games to watch us.

I think that's where it starts because if you don't get people coming to watch you. There's no support, we don't make money or financially we don't gain.

Even the association doesn't gain a lot but I think we were not surprised. We knew people were gonna follow us and we are glad they did. We are happy we got the support."
