Kholosa Biyana looks forward to leading Sundowns juniors in international football

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies under-17 coach Kholosa Biyana says their participation in the CAF Under-17 Girls Integrated Football Tournament is part of allowing their juniors an opportunity to get international exposure.

Sundowns find themselves in Group A after the draw of the second edition of the tournament, pitted against Mpopoma Sports Academy of Zimbabwe, along with Otjiwarongo Sports Academy from Namibia  and Luwinga Academy of Malawi.

The tournament will be staged in Harare, Zimbabwe between 8 and 18 December 2025.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Biyana adds that she is grateful to the club management for their consistent support for women’s football and their development teams.

“More than anything Sundowns has done a lot for women’s football, it has done a lot for the development teams. So this is for our President, we want to make him proud. It is our first time participating in this tournament, it will be important to take each game as it comes and hopefully get to perform well. This tournament will allow our juniors to experience international football,” said Biyana.

The second edition of this tournament sees two teams representing South Africa - with Sundowns joined by Refilwe FC who will be competing in pool B.

Biyana says this is attestment to the growing football development structure in the country.

“This says a lot about South Africa. This says a lot about our development structures. It is also important for these young girls to experience football at a high level, to make it easy for them when they start playing for the national team,” added Biyana.

As Sundowns technical team plans for this tournament for the first time, Biyana shares her thoughts regarding their opponents in Group A.

“It is a tough draw. We need to do our homework since we do not know what to expect. I do know that Zimbabwe is good and Malawi is also tough. I know that all teams will want to beat teams from South Africa because of how the national team performs,” she expressed.
