Karl-Heinz Rummenigge wishes Bayern Munich signed Florian Wirtz, Nick Woltemade

Bayern Munich supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has spoken candidly about the club's transfer frustrations, regarding Florian Wirtz and Nick Woltemade.

Rummenigge revealed that Bayern had been keen to secure both Florian Wirtz and Nick Woltemade, but ultimately saw the highly rated youngsters head elsewhere.

Wirtz, long considered one of the top midfield talents in Europe, opted to join Liverpool, while forward Woltemade sealed a move to Newcastle United.

The former Bayern CEO was less complimentary about Woltemade's transfer, suggesting the deal made little financial sense.

Despite Bayern's clear desire to sign both players, Rummenigge also questioned whether Wirtz and Woltemade had chosen the best environments for their own development.

"I have to say honestly, in the case of Florian Wirtz, it still hurts, because I believe the player would have been better off at Bayern than at Liverpool," Rummenigge told Sport Bild.

"We could have signed Woltemade. But I also have to say: Bayern Munich are wise enough not to engage in every kind of financial madness.

"I've always said: We want to achieve sporting success, but please, in a serious and financially sound way. We have a top team, this year as well.

"And when the three players who are currently injured come back soon, then we'll have a great team."
