Kaizer Chiefs showing more teamwork this season - Cedric Kaze

Kaizer Chiefs is playing more like a team this season, as compared to last season. This is the honest observation of Amakhosi assistant coach Cedric Kaze.

He reflected on their second win of the season in as many matches in the Betway Premiership.

Chiefs beat a stubborn Polokwane City 1-0 at FNB Stadium last night, courtesy of Siphesihle Ndlovu’s goal.

Chiefs have now won their first two matches of the season in the Betway Premiership, and Kaze spots the difference in this team.

"It is true that we are confident, but we have to temper our excitement because it is only our second game of the season.

"We look more like a team this season. In strong or weak moments, we stick together and play like a team - that has been the biggest difference," explained Kaze.

It was not the greatest performance from Amakhosi, but in the end, they grinded out the result, after being aided by their substitutions from the bench.

The architects of the goal were players who came from the bench, Paseka Mako, Pule Mmodi, Reeve Frosler, and Ndlovu.

Kaze says a strong bench has also been their strength in this early stage of the season.

Defensively, Chiefs didn’t have a good record last season, with the third-worst defensive record, but they have managed to keep clean sheets in their first two matches of this season.

Asked if they have worked more on their leaking defence and on minimizing mistakes at the back, Kaze shares what they have been fixing at the back.

"Whether you like it or not, you have to study your past experiences and make improvements. We conceded far too many goals last season, and many of those goals were from rebounds or set pieces, so we have made tactical and psychological adjustments to improve our defense," said the assistant coach.

This was the second win for Chiefs without their head coach, Nasreddine Nabi, on the bench, and Kaze says he still has some influence on the team, despite him being back home in Tunisia, attending to his injured wife.

He says Nabi trusts them to create the line-up and the tactical plan for the games.
