Kaizer Chiefs determined to finish 2026 Gauteng SAFA League campaign on a high

Chiefs have two matches remaining, starting with a home clash against Mamelodi 11 Stars Ladies at the Village on Sunday before wrapping up their campaign against the University of Johannesburg Ladies.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Mchunu says the team has prepared thoroughly for their final home fixture as they look to secure maximum points.

“We honestly prepare well for each game, so we have prepared accordingly to make sure that we wrap up the league on a high. We are currently number two on the log, it has been a great debut season. We are facing Mamelodi 11 this Sunday. It is a home game, we have a plan and have studied the team - we want maximum points. And if you have seen us play at home, you know what to expect.

“We have worked very hard to be where we are, relying on each other’s strengths and improving in each game,” said Mchunu.

Amakhosazana are currently second on the log with 64 points from 26 matches, level on points with Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies.

Mchunu believes consistency has been key to their impressive debut campaign, while she also credits the experience within the technical team for helping the squad maintain high standards throughout the season.

“As you know, we have a very experienced and hardworking technical team. They have analysed most teams accurately and they gave us a solid game plan for each and every match. Plus, we have players who play as a unit. We play for each other and have remained consistent throughout the season,” added Mchunu.

With promotion to top-flight football within reach, Mchunu hopes Chiefs can achieve their goal and reward the supporters who have backed them throughout their debut campaign.

“We hope so. Even though it’s challenging, by God’s grace and with the hard work we’ve put in from the technical team and players, we hope we do. We’ve had massive support from everyone, especially the fans showing up to each and every game, and we are grateful. The one thing we can do for them is make sure we finish the league on a high,” she expressed.
