John Maduka looking for redemption against in-form Orlando Pirates

Royal AM coach John Maduka is hoping his side returns to winning ways when they face Orlando Pirates in the DStv Premiership on Wednesday.

The Durban-based outfit suffered a home defeat when Cape Town City grabbed all three points with a 2-1 victory on Saturday, dealing a blow to their efforts to consolidate a Top 8 position with three games to go.

Maduka wants redemption against the Buccaneers.

"It gives us the chance to redeem ourselves. If we win against Pirates, you know the confidence comes in again. Everyone in this league is beatable. As I said against Cape Town, we were supposed to do well. We were supposed to get a good result, maybe the worst scenario was supposed to be a draw," he said.

One of the concerns for Maduka is how they’ve been conceding goals, an area he is adamant needs to be better against Pirates.

Royal Am has conceded 12 goals in their last five league games.

"I think first half, maybe apart from the ball that hit the post, I think it was [Khanyisa] Mayo again. They never looked like they could give us any problems. Our own mistakes again are why we conceded. In professional football, you make mistakes, you get punished. Unfortunately, it's been like that, it's something that we have to improve," the coach explained.

Royal AM have also had to use all three goalkeepers this season following an injury to first choice Hugo Nyame – and with Xolani Ngcobo suspended at the weekend, Mondli Mpoto completed only his second game in this campaign.

"I think he was good. I mean the goals that he conceded, first goal was a free header, what is a goal keeper going to do because that time we scored he's right in the middle. It's close to your goal, there's no challenge on the header. What can the goalkeeper do? The second one, there's a player there I think it was Rikhotso, how close, it was a near post, put your foot there.'
