Jesse Marsch calls for perspective after Canada’s historic Draw

Canada coach Jesse Marsch believes his side can use their historic FIFA World Cup point as a springboard for the remainder of Group B, despite being held to a draw in their opening match.

The tournament hosts fought back from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina in front of a packed crowd at Toronto Stadium, securing Canada's first-ever point at the global showpiece.

While Marsch would have preferred victory, the former Leeds United coach urged supporters to recognise the significance of the achievement with challenging fixtures against Qatar and Switzerland still to come.

"It's the first ever World Cup point in Canadian history so we should be happy and enjoy that. Again, you can't help it when you're a coach you get so focused in on what you want your team to be. The week in Toronto has been outstanding and the fans have been amazing, but I'm really just so focused in on my team, making sure our players are fully equipped so that they can be the best version.

"I didn't do enough to get them ready for the first half, but after some of the messages I gave at halftime our response was great in the second half."

Canada are off to Vancouver for their second match against Qatar, who also shared the spoils with Switzerland on Saturday. Marsch expects the crowd to be their 12th man.

The coach did concede that perhaps his charges could have been overwhelmed by the occasion in the first half but came out the blocks stronger in the second.
