Jermaine Seoposenwe’s side with a mountain to climb in second leg play-offs final

Banyana Banyana forward Jermaine Seoposenwe’s FC Monterrey have a mountain to climb in the second leg of the Liga MX Femenil play-offs after they lost 1-0 to Club America in the opening leg of the final played on Saturday in Mexico.

FC Monterrey will have to a lot deeper to earn their first championship medal in three years.

Meeting for the first time in the play-offs final, both teams were eager to add to the two league titles they have won, and an electrifying match was expected – which is exactly what the fans got, with end-to-end action throughout the encounter.

In a match delayed by an hour due to rain and hail at the Azteca Stadium, the home side took the lead at the stroke of half time with a well-taken shot by Kiana Palacios following a great assist by Kimberly Rodríguez.

However much they tried in the second half, the visitors could not break the defensive wall of Club America, and it ended 1-0 to the hosts, with Seoposenwe playing the entire 90minutes.

The South African’s team will be looking to overturn the results in the second leg scheduled for Monday, 27 May at the BBVA Stadium, the home of FC Monterrey.

On their way to the final, Rayadas brushed aside the Pumas in the quarterfinals, before dispatching Pachuca in the last four, while Club America defeated Chivas Guadalajara and UANL Tigres in the first hurdle and in the semifinals respectively.

Thembi Kgatlana’s Tigres were the defending champions – a title they won before the Banyana Banyana star signed for them.
