Jamil Benouahi gives candid take on Marumo Gallants mission

Jamil Benouahi gives candid take on Marumo Gallants mission

Marumo Gallants coach Jamil Benouahi admits he faces a daunting task after accepting a rescue mission to steer the club clear of relegation.

The Moroccan tactician steps into a side battling instability, with his predecessor dismissed amid allegations of insubordination and the club’s ongoing legal tensions involving David Mogashoa in the High Court.

Benouahi concedes the scale of the challenge was clear from the outset but he remains focused on stabilising the team and guiding Bahlabane Ba Ntwa to safety.

"We knew that starting from 7 April it's going to be tough and short on time for the games, we've worked a lot in the last two weeks but here we know we just have to go back and [review]," said Benouahi.

"The video will be something that will help to watch the games and we have to work mentally on our players to get out from this state of mind very quickly."

The former AS FAR assistant coach revealed he had been in contact with Gallants before the start of the campaign, but it was Alexander Laffitte who got the nod instead.

Benouahi says he is yet to speak to compatriot Abdeslam Ouaddou, who was also in the same position last season before moving to Orlando Pirates.

"I know everything about Marumo because I'm following the team, I was even expecting to come at the beginning of the season," he revealed.

"But yes, the challenge is big, I know it's a big challenge. I haven't called him [Ouaddou], I don't think there's enough time at the moment, maybe later, I don't know.

"Since I came here, I'm just busy with the club, working and trying to fix things, so I have to just go back to work and that's it."
