Inter Milan eye Nigerian 'wonderkid' George Ilenikhena

Serie A outfit Inter Milan have reportedly set their sights on acquiring the promising talent of Nigeria's rising star, George Ilenikhena.

The Royal Antwerp FC forward, who made history as the youngest Nigerian to score in a UEFA Champions League match at just 17 years old - against Barcelona in December.

Reports from Gazetta dello Sport, indicate the Nerazzurri's keen interest in the Lagos-born striker, fully aware of the fierce competition they face in securing his signature during the upcoming transfer window.

The timing of this pursuit aligns with the looming departure of Alexis Sanchez, whose contract with Inter expires in the summer. Eager to bolster their attacking options, the Italian giants see Ilenikhena as a potential solution to fill the void left by the departing forward.

Ilenikhena's impressive stint at Antwerp, highlighted by his goal-scoring exploits, have not gone unnoticed. Despite earlier speculation linking him with Manchester United, renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has dismissed such rumours, indicating a potential shift in the player's future.

Despite his youth and occasional absence from the starting line-up, Ilenikhena's impact on the pitch has been significant, amassing 14 goals and one assist across various competitions this season.

However, should the Nigerian phenom make the move to Inter Milan, he may face challenges in securing regular playing time, given the established duo of Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez as the preferred striking options under manager Simone Inzaghi's tactical setup.
